2023-2024 TASC State Service Project

Able to See the Need

The Why:
TASC should be able to see and meet the needs of our community, no matter the size or significance of an issue or need. As leaders, it is our responsibility to dedicate ourselves to bettering our communities by contributing our time and resources to the current resource scarcity crisis. We must educate ourselves and others on the resources communities have available. By implementing this project, student councils can help vulnerable groups and recognize the needs of each and every community.

Objective:
Our project, 'Able to See the Need,' addresses the interconnected issues of resource scarcity and security in our communities. We plan to achieve this by increasing awareness of local needs, educating community members about available resources, and facilitating volunteers and donations to support those in need. TASC will provide resources to local advocacy centers and food banks, as well as fund donations to organizations that align with our goals.

Resource Scarcity:
This project focuses on providing access to lacking resources in your school and community. Student councils can bring awareness of local advocacy centers and host drives for basic hygiene products, school supplies, healthcare resources, childcare services, clothing, and canned food. The topic of resource scarcity calls for the attention of TASC-participating schools to step up and recognize the deficiency of necessities needed to proceed with everyday life for the people in their communities.

Goals:
Through the Able to See the Need project, we hope to:

  1. See the needs in our communities and open our eyes to new ways to help those surrounding us.
    - See the need in your community by connecting with your school administrators, school counselors, and local leaders to see which areas of your school district are lacking and what you can do to help.
  2. Educate students and members of our communities about the resources available to them.
    - Educate yourself and your community on resources by conducting research on who the target group is, what resource scarcity there is, and how you can help.
  3. Contribute time, goods, and resources to those in our communities who are in need.
    - Contribute your services by implementing the recommended projects that address the need in your school community.

Report Goals:

  • At least 1,000 projects designed to address the need for specific resources in their community or school.
  • At least 300 councils will partner with local community organizations (food banks, blood banks, shelters, advocacy centers etc.).
  • At least 15,000 service hours dedicated to projects helping the needs of the community.
  • At least , 1000 social media posts sharing resources, projects, and awareness regarding cancer - tag @tasc_stuco and hashtag #AbleToSeeTheNeed
  • At least $10,000 in goods and monies donated to organizations promoting cancer awareness or supporting people experiencing cancer.
  • At least 100,000 people reached through education efforts. This is considered by counting or measuring the amount of people educated through programs (attendees at a seminar, views of a post, etc.)
