Important Announcement Regarding TASC HS Annual Conference

It is with great sadness that I must announce that the Texas Association of Student Councils is cancelling its onsite April High School Annual Conference. Conditions regarding COVID-19 continue to worsen across the US and Texas. The WHO has declared the coronavirus a pandemic; the United States has declared a national emergency; and most of your schools are either closed, have cancelled travel, or both.

I know this conference is the highlight of the TASC year for many of you. Eastlake High School under the leadership of Gibby Widner and Kelley Akins as well as our entire Board of Directors have worked tirelessly to make this event a success for over a year. However, the safety of our attendees and concern for our global community is our highest priority.

• If you registered with TASC for the event, wait for an email directly from us regarding this. We will make refunds for your conference fees already paid and will be working with those of you who have registered and not yet paid.

• All housing bureau reservations for the 2020 TASC High School Annual Conference made through the TASC Block with Conference Direct will be cancelled, and you will be sent an acknowledgment email as confirmation. If you booked outside the block, you must contact your hotel to cancel. We cannot guarantee there will be no cancellation fees in those cases.

However, this year’s theme is LEVEL UP YOUR LEADERSHIP!

Stay tuned for news about our VIRTUAL CONFERENCE!

• The election will take place.
• Keynote speakers will present.
• Recognition will continue.
• Ideas and successful projects will be shared.

• Please continue to watch the TASC website for updates.

We hope that each of you, your families, your friends, your council members, and your colleagues remain healthy and safe. As always, thank you for your passion for student leadership and your support of the Texas Association of Student Councils.

Since its organization in 1937, more than 1,200 secondary school student councils are members of the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC). Membership and involvement in the association provide students and advisors with opportunities to develop the skills necessary to run an effective student council at the local level. TASC builds leadership abilities in students and advisors, promotes civic engagement, and develops strong councils at the local level.
